Yes, a new Angel for tonight. You’ve already been introduced to Batič wines Angel white, so tonight it is time to look at its antipode, the noble rendition of a red blend produced with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with long maceration and oak ageing.
Grapes come from a biodynamically farmed vineyard close to Vogrsko, the plot’s name is Jazbine, and it counts for thirty years of age.
The blend of 60 % Merlot, 25 %Cabernet Sauvignon and 15 % Cabernet Franc is picked simultaneously and macerates simultaneously for 60 days to allow harmonisation of all varieties. Finally, the mash was gently pressed and the wine racked in barriques of Slavonian oak, where it matured for 24 months, to be later bottled without filtration and with minimum addition of So2.
This results in a deep, ruby red coloured cuvée, with dense texture, colouring the glass walls.
The bouquet reveals ripe fruit, blackberries, wild berries. We find black cherry, mulberry, blueberry, even black currant and plum. Then the aroma of black olives, herbs, eucalyptus, laurel, coffee, chocolate, black pepper, and leather open up.
Angel is dry, soft and warm. It has crisp freshness and youthful tannins that dry our mouths. A wine with a vigorous body, pronounced intensity and a lasting, exquisite taste.
A wine, only showing its graciousness and long, ageing potential with a minimum of ten years. A bottle will cost you approximately 35 Eur, and you can order it at Koželj, Vinoteka Sodček, TuamV, and Raw wine.
