The weekend is here, and what better way to start Friday’s eve than by opening a bottle of this macerated and barrel matured Rebula from Vipava valley that was produced following biodynamic methods at Guerila.

Hand-harvested grapes are coming from the vineyard “Pri Pili”, which boys at Guerila started planting in 2009. Pila is the name of the chapel that lies at the border of their property. The exposition is southwest and planted at an altitude of 275 meters above sea level. The terrain starts to flatten here, but vineyards are still terraced. This is the vineyard that gave fruit to the award-winning Pinela, produced by Zmago Petrič’s father in 1956.

After destemming and crushing, the pomace macerated for a week with spontaneous fermentation. After gentle pressing, the young wine matured on fine lees in a large acacia barrel, conduction malolactic fermentation. Finally, it was bottled without filtration and minimal addition of sulphur.

This expression of Rebula displays a hazy, deep golden yellow colour with an ember edge and is dense in texture.

The intense and luxurious bouquet reveals notes of dried apricot, baked apple. We find hints of pineapple, orange peel, dried figs, dried yellow flowers, thyme, white pepper, straw, resin, and marl notes.

A bone dry wine with perceivable softness. It refreshes our palate and leaves a tasty mineral aftertaste, followed by an astringent tannin that dries our mouths. Flavours of dried fruit, sweet spices and herbs are elevated on the palate and bind in an intense and lasting taste of this elegant, full-bodied rendition of the variety.

A majestic rendition of the variety, produced as our ancestors did. Archaic, but with a potent and lively soul. A wine to contemplate or enjoy with a palate of dishes. You can get it for the price between 16 and 18 Eur at TuamV, Sloveense Wijnen, Natural wine and Raw wine.
