Let’s brighten up this Monday eve, are you with me? We’re returning to M – simply good wine to look at their happy ol’ Goodfella. A wine produced entirely of Pinot Gris.
This fella has been produced from organic grapes, as is the case with all their wines. A minor detail I didn’t mention in the description of their Sauvignon Blanc. We’re at the south-facing slopes of Pohorje, the soil is Quartz, and Pinot Gris’ vines count 25 years.
Selected bunches were exclusively hand-harvested when overripe, destemmed and crushed. Mash macerated with the start of spontaneous fermentation for two days at controlled temperatures, at 10 ° Celsius. Following gentle pressing, it was laid in used 600-litre oak barrels with fine lees for 18 months, conducting malolactic fermentation during this time. It was then bottled without filtration and laid stored for a minimum of 6 months before coming to the market.
Goodfella is a wine with strawy yellow colour, with a slight onion tinge, clearly showing the skin colour of the variety.
The nose reveals intense and refined perceptions of peach, red apple, pomegranate, jasmine, rosehip, with notes of butter, caramel and bread crust.
The taste is off-dry, soft, with nicely incorporated alcohol displaying softness, opposed by the crisp freshness and mineral salinity at the same time. Overall the mouthfeel is balanced with an intense, full-bodied taste with lasting, elegant persistency.
A characterful rendition of Pinot Gris that will find a broad range of fans. Its character will enchant easy going companies, but its complexity and softness make it a gastronomic companion for many complex dishes. A bottle will cost you approximately 19,50 Eur, and you can order it on their website or look at the range of their wines at Vinoo.co.
