We’re at Meum tonight, where Jurij Brumec produces some expressive renditions of wines. Including Fusion, an unusual blend of Syrah and Pinot noir, which matured in new and used oak barrels.
Both varieties are hand-harvested and vinified alone. Syrah is coming from an eight years old vineyard, while Pinot Noir vines count ten years. They are planted in limestone and marl at an altitude of approximately 380 meters above sea level.
After destemming and crushing, the mash macerated for approximately fourteen days at uncontrolled temperatures. Following gentle pressing, the wine was racked with fine lees in oak barrels. Syrah in new, Pinot noir in used ones. Both wines matured for two weeks and were assembled only after, forming the final blend.
Fusion presents with a translucent, ruby red colour, with dense texture.
Its bouquet is intense. We perceive ripe plums, cherries, black currants, violets and hibiscus, cocoa, coffee, black pepper, roasted hazelnuts, humus, forest undergrowth, as well as cloves.
It is dry, soft and reasonably warm. It refreshes our palate and leaves a lovely mineral touch. Its tannins are nicely rounded off. An elegant wine of intensity, structure and lusting persistency. Flavours of cherry, roasted nuts and caramel appear.
A blend of refined elegance that has the potential to last for at least the next five years. A bottle will cost you 17,5 Eur, and you can order it by calling the winemaker at +386 41 563 267, sending an email to info@meumwinery.si or at Wino.si.
