Today we’re looking at Meum, a relatively young brand in the Slovenian wine scene. Jurij Brumec is a renowned oenologist with years of experience, who started to put wines under the“Meum”. And this is what Pinot noir according to “My wine” (Meum) Jurij would present to guests.

Vineyards are counting for 20 years of age, planted at an altitude between 380 and 430 meters above sea level. The incline is of demanding 47 %, so imagine the labour when picking. Only handpicking is possible here. The soil is composed of mar and vineyards are grassed, as in due sustainable spirit calls.

Grapes are picked at full ripeness, followed by classical fermentation with selected yeast. Mash macerates for 18 days in open vats at uncontrolled temperatures, fully conducting alcoholic fermentation. Following gentle pressing, it is laid to rest three times used French barrique barrels for two years on fine lees. No racking is done meantime, but it undergoes full malolactic fermentation. After the assemblage, it is bottled without filtration.

This Pinot noir has a transparent, ruby red colour.

The bouquet is intense, with fruity perceptions of ripe cherries, plums, currants and cranberries. Violets are followed by perceptions of black pepper, hummus, walnut, fern, and pencil tip.

The taste is intense, soft, but distinctly fresh and tannic. A wine of elegance and full bodied structure. It will only improve with bottle ageing and even further emphasize this noble grape’s delicacy.
