Joannes - Protner - Sauvignon, 2019
We’re returning to Vodole tonight to taste a varietal rendition of Sauvignon blanc, produced by the Protner family in a way to express the characteristics of this variety.
Grapes were hand-harvested at a vineyard planted in sandy loam soil, close to Vodole in early September. After a 12 hour cold maceration, the juice was racked into stainless vats, where it fermented and matured for six months. Finally, it was filtered and bottled.
I must point out that this is a 2019 vintage that was produced to drink in two to three years, but I’m amazed at how it just keeps its stamina.
Protners’ Sauvignon displays a straw yellow with a green rim of fairly dense fluidity.
Its intense bouquet expresses the variety. We perceive hints of ripe green apple, kiwi, elderflower, paprika leaf, followed by notes of mint, lime, lemongrass, freshly cut grass and pomelo.
The wine is dry, relatively soft, refreshing with mineral saltiness. An intense, rather structured wine with fair persistency and expressed elegance, showcasing all the advantages of the variety.
It is a perfect match to refresh us with this heat and a bargain, looking at his price tag of 9 Eur, and you can order it straight at their website.
