Let’s head to Brda tonight, to the family Kristančič that has been releasing wines under the Ronk name since 1993. I’m excited to taste their Pinot Grigio which has been released under the Selectus range.

As the name implies, Selectus stands for Ronk’s premium range of wines and only when a vintage is genuinely outstanding, a wine will be released under this range. And so the time has come to taste the Pinot Grigio, which honestly, not much is known, as this is the latest wine to be added to their range, and not even much can be found if searching around. So let’s see to shed some light on it.

Grapes were hand-harvested from vines that count over thirty-five years of age. Only the best berries were used in its production, which followed destemming, crushing, and a seven-day maceration to extract colour. Finally, the young wine was racked in oak barrels where it matured for a year, and it had to wait for another year before coming to the market.

This expresses in an extractive, cherry red coloured Pinot Grigio with a coppery shade, whose glowing swirls quickly stop in the glass.

Its aromas are seductive, intense. We perceive blood orange, pomegranate, dried apricots, roasted nuts, caramel, oregano, and even a touch of leather.

Its softness is pronounced while refreshing our palate and leaving a mineral and slightly tannic touch. It is an intense and long-lasting, full-bodied wine with accentuated elegance that emanates flavours of blood orange, pomegranate and roasted in its aftertaste.

A wine that pleases now and will keep on delighting for at least the next seven years. If this intrigued you into trying, then it’s best if you contact the winemaker at +386 40 554 451 or send an email to info@vinaronk.si.

I simply had to pour this wine into Lehmann’s Numéro carafe and the Hommage 72 glass. Don’t they look great? Soon they will be available at Dobro vino.
