The time is right for us to return to the Štoka family and their characterful wines. We’ll be tasting what could easily be the rendition to a metropolitan Karstic blend named Carsus. A cuvée of Refosco, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that has aged in oak.

I said metropolitan with a reason here. As Refosco that has been growing here in the Karst region, can bear the name of Teran due to the distinctive soil that gives such an impact on the wine, we’re now faced with what can come out of the marriage with international grape varieties that have found their home here.

Grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed and crushed. Each variety is vinified separately with maceration in open vats. After gently pressing the pomace, the young wine has to mature for at least five years in barriques before finally being introduced to the market.

All this results in a deep, ruby red coloured wine with a dense texture. We observe coloured tears slowly sleeping along the walls of our glass.

Its bouquet is accentuated, seductive. We distinguish ripe cherries, mulberries, blueberries and violet petals. Vanilla stands out and combines with a slight scent of chocolate while revealing cinnamon and forest undergrowth.

The taste reveals softness and warmth but offers a perfect measure of freshness and velvety tannins to round it all up. A wine with an intense taste, noble character and long-lasting persistency that will enchant each drinker.

A bottle will cost you approximately 20 Eur but and you can order it at Koželj and Be.Wines. You can easily store it for the next seven to ten years without a problem. It will only keep on evolving its nobility.
