It is time we return to the Svetlik family tonight as we’re tasting a Rebula that deserves all the attention. We’ll be looking at their Rebula Selekcija, a wine marked by extensive maceration that matured in oak.

Grapes are coming from the south-facing slopes of the mountain Čaven. The vineyard is called Gracé and is planted at altitudes between 310 and 370 meters above sea level in flysch.

Approximately two weeks before harvest, they prepare the Pied de Cuve, which is used to start the fermentation with grapes from this vineyard. After destemming and crushing the pomace macerates for fourteen days at controlled temperatures. Finally, it was gently pressed and racked into 500-litre oak barrels, where it matured for two years with batonnage. It also conducted complete malolactic conversion during this time. The wine was bottled without fining and filtration.

Rebula Selekcija displays deep, amber colour and dense texture.

Its aromas are intense and reveal the luxury of maturing in selected oak barrels. We detect raisins, candied orange, yellow plum jam, forest honey, autumn leaves, cedar and hints of graphite.

A wine of intensity. We perceive softness, but its crispness with freshness, minerality and perceivable tannins drive the palate. It is an elegant and very persistent wine with a vigorous body that will only evolve its character over the next seven and more years.

A bottle will cost you approximately 35 Eur and is currently available by contacting the winemaker at edvard@svetlik-wine.com or Deli Croatia.
