When it comes down to wines that elevate passion today’s choice might be the one. Named Passion, as the grape variety used to produce this wine is calling for, in the winemakers’ eyes. There’s a love affair with Burgundy here and yes, you’ve guessed it right, we’re speaking of Pinot Noir.

The wine in question comes from one of the first private houses of Jeruzalemsko – Svetinjske hills, and this is where Samo Kupljen produces some serious, state of art wines. We’re in the northeast of Slovenia, where the climate is mostly continental with some cold affluence from nearby mountains. And these are perfect for the production of Pinot Noir, among others.

Wines of Vino Kupljen are available in two lines. The Premium line focuses on varietal expressions of wines, while the line Stars of Stiria encompasses wines from a selection of best plots that are marked by refinement in oak barrels.

And such is the case with Passion. Only selected, handpicked grapes from selected vineyards are used to produce this wine. The wine refines in French oak for 18 months and further 6 months of bottle ageing before coming to the market.

It has a transparent ruby red colour.

With intense, seductive aromas of cherry, ripe plum, hibiscus, violet, red pepper, cloves, cinnamon, cocoa, eucalyptus, forest undergrowth and a note of pencil tip.

The taste is youthful, with perceptible softness, but also lively freshness, minerality and pronounced tannins, which are just starting to round off. A full-bodied wine with an intense, elegant and long-lasting taste that will only improve over time.

A skillfully crafted, passionate homage which fully expresses the noble character of this variety.
