It is time to return to Danilo and Anita Mavrič tonight, as I’m eager to taste their Merlot selekcija from the 2015 vintage. As we tasted their 2017 already, I’m pretty excited, so this will be a great comparison of vintages.

This wine has been produced similarly, maceration with the fermentation of approximately two weeks, maturation in a combination of French and Slavonian oak for 18 months and further six-month maturation in stainless vats to fully incorporate.

This Merlos displays a ruby red colour with a slight garnet hue and pronounced viscosity.

The bouquet is intense and alluring. We regard black cherries, dry red roses, prune, game, and chocolate. With time coffee, nuts, cedar, and eucalyptus come to the front.

The wine is soft and warm, still offering a good dose of ripe freshness with rounding tannins showing they still have time for evolution. A wine of intensity, with a vigorous body and lasting, elegant persistency with flavours of black cherries, prune, liquorice and nuts in the finish.

A great expression of a Merlot that shows the longevity and how well it can age when produced with such care and devotion. Naturally, it is riper than 2017, but it will still deliver in the next seven to ten years. And looking at the price level of approximately 15 Eur, it is sure a bargain. To order a bottle, it is best to call Danilo or Anita at +386 41 320 916.
