We’re returning to Vipava valley’s cooperative cellar Vipava 1894 with today’s choice, to a variety that gives great examples in the valley. I’m talking about Pinot noir.

Precisely we’ll have a look at their Lanthieri line, which is dedicated to the HORECA segment “in primis”, but you can find it also at selected retailers.

Grapes were hand-picked when fully ripe in three vineyards sparsed between the lower and upper Vipava Valley, they are also named on the back label.

After destemming, whole bunches macerated at 25 ° Celsius. Alcoholic fermentation was spontaneous, with indigenous yeast and was followed by malolactic fermentation.

After a gentle pressing, the wine was transferred in a combination of new and used oak barrels of 225 and 800 litres for 20 months. It was then bottled without the usage of any fining agents, and it came to the market in late autumn of 2020. It is also the latest addition to the Lanthieri line.

This Pinot noir has a transparent ruby red colour with a dense texture.

Aromas are seductively intense of ripe cherries, plums, red roses, roasted nuts, leather, forest undergrowth, cloves, chocolate, coffee, Boswellia, resin and eucalyptus.

The taste is soft, feels warm with a refreshing and mineral salty taste. The tannins round off and dry the mouth pleasantly. It is an exemplar of a full-bodied Pinot Noir, with pronounced elegance and lasting aftertaste. There is a lot of wood in this wine, but it is rounded off by its soft and warm character.

It is currently available at their online store, where you can get a box for approximately 65 Eur. You can also get it also at Vipava’s tourist centre or Vipavka stores. If you call their number it will be delivered to your doorstep. The price of approximately 10 Eur per bottle is surely a bargain, and it will keep in shape for the next 7 years.
