Let’s move back to Vogrsko tonight; there’s a fresh silver awarded wine in this village, and what better occasion than stopping by to look at it. We’re, of course, at the Fornazarič family, and we’ll look at their Jakot (Sauvignon vert), which has seen its fair share of maturation in large oak cask.

The vineyard for this wine was planted in 1992 on soil consisting primarily of marlstone and sandstone on south-facing slopes. Vineyards are terraced and grassed.

Bunches are hand-harvested, destemmed and crushed. The mash ferments and macerates at uncontrolled temperatures for five days before being gently pressed. Finally, the juice is racked with fine lees into a large oak vat, where it matures for twelve months. It is then racked for further maturation in stainless vats and then ultimately bottled without filtration.

This Jakot displays a crystal, golden yellow colour with dense texture.

Its bouquet is intense and reveals delicate aromas of ripe yellow apple, pineapple and passion fruit, candied citrus zest is followed by dried yellow flowers, honey, roasted hazelnuts, marzipan, notes of butter, vanilla and sweet root are rounding it all up with scents of caramel and dry yellow leaves.

The wine is dry, soft, and warm. At the same time, it packs freshness and mineral salinity with a slight tannin grip. A wine of intense taste, full-bodied and with a lasting, elegant taste in which the notes of roasted and dried fruit are reflected.

It will only intensify its elegance and please further for at least the next five years. A bottle will cost you between 15 and 20 Eur, and it is best to call Jani at +386 40 658 120 or send an e-mail to .
