Meum – Sauvignon, 2020

As Salon Sauvignon is approaching fast, time calls for a warm-up and what better way than starting with Meum‘s protectively produced expression of Sauvignon blanc.

We’re in Slovenske Konjice, on the hills of lower Štajerska Slovenija, and here is where Jurij Brumec crafts some of the most pristine wines, expressing the terroir. Grapes are coming from the lower parts of the slopes, with a mixture of clay and flysch.

After hand-harvesting, they are transferred to the cellar with constant cooling. They are directly pressed with cooling and then moved to ferment in stainless vats. Finally, it is bottled and ready to spoil us.

Meum’s Sauvignon blanc features a strawy yellow colour with a slight green tinge. It’s crystal clear, very translucent and quite dense.

Its bouquet is intense, and we immediately recognise the variety. We notice paprika leaf, elderflower, white peach, papaya, mint and freshly cut grass in the background.

It’s a dry wine with refreshing acidity and mineral salinity. Flavours are accentuated on the palate, bringing forward a note of mint, white peach, pear and grass—an elegant wine of medium structure, with just enough persistency to call for another glass.
