As you know, Salon Sauvignon is happening tomorrow, and it is only appropriate then to have a look at another example of this variety. And what better way than looking at one of the most prominent wine houses of Slovenia – Movia. Yes, we’re in Brda sipping their Sauvignon Blanc.
This wine combines grapes from two vineyards. Gredič with south exposures, aged fifteen years, and Turno with northeast exposure, aged twenty-five years. In a due manner at Movia, all organically farmed.
Grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed and placed to macerate for two days in a large vinificator, where it macerates for two days at cold temperatures. The mash is pressed and clarified, then moved in stainless vats where fermentation takes place. The wine is then racked into French barriques to mature for eighteen months. Finally, it is bottled without filtration and waits at least four months before coming to the market.
This Sauvignon Blanc presents with a golden yellow colour, glowing our glass, with dense texture.
Its bouquet is tempting, with intense aromas of ripe tropical fruit, mango, pineapple, tangerine, candied lemon zest, yellow roses, acacia, as well as vanilla, anise, thyme and a slight note of white pepper.
The taste is pronounced with an oily feel, and at the same time, refreshing us to leave a pleasant mineral salinity on the palate. We recognise ripe tropical fruit flavours, sweet spices, and a slight caramel note on the palate. This Sauvignon blanc parades with elegance, complexity and an intense, lasting aftertaste.
This wine has the stamina for long years of ageing. It will please drinkers now, but it will nicely evolve over the coming years. A bottle will cost you approximately 19 Eur, and you can get it at Dobro vino, Koželj, Temple cellars, Call me wine, TWDC, Wine style, Wine adventure, Bernabei, Triple-A and Grand wine cellar.
