Renčel - Sauvignon, 2017
It is time to speak of Joško Renčel and his wines. First, we’ll be looking at his creation of Sauvignon grapes, grown at the Karst plateau in its distinctive calcareous, red coloured soil.
Joško is quite a guy, modest and humble, giving this true impression of a vigneron who wants to craft his authentic wines. I don’t have the exact information on the production of this wine, but it confirms Karst has the terroir for some serious Sauvignon wines. We’re speaking of spontaneous fermentation with maceration and ageing in oak casks.
All this results in a hazy, golden-yellow colour with a dense texture.
Its bouquet is accentuated, fine. It reveals aromas of elderberry, ripe gooseberry, persimmon crumbs and papaya. Hints of yarrow are joined by perceptions of oregano, honey, cloves, dried tobacco and liquorice.
The taste is intense. We distinguish softness and perceptible warmth. Simultaneously, it brings acidity and minerality that balance the taste leaving a slightly tannic taste. A full-bodied Sauvignon with an accentuated elegance and persistent aftertaste.
A wine that can stand the next five to seven years, and to get a bottle, it is best to contact the winemaker at +386 31 370 561 or send an e-mail to rencelwine@gmail.com.
