What a wine for today, a colossal one! Edi Simčič‘s Kolos is a wine that represents the essence of assembling wines from the best barrels.

Produced in the same manner as Duet Lex, the latter showing more balance, Kolos boasts with its youthfulness and huge ageing potential. It is the derivate of constant starving for best expressions vineyards can show. No wonder Kolos made it easy on my best red wines of 2020 list …

Produced wit mastery, and only in best vintages. This Bordeaux blend consists of 80 % Merlot, 10 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 10 % Cabernet Franc. It is vinified in selected, new barrique barrels for 48 months before its final resting in bottles.

And what a stunning result. Deep, thick, ruby red colour with a dense texture.

Its bouquet is enticingly sophisticated, with ripe cherries, cranberries, black currants, plums, mulberries, chocolate, coffee, caramel, carob, leather and tobacco. The finish is slightly smoky and with a hint of graphite.

Its taste is soft, youthfully fresh with slowly accentuating, velvety tannins that are felt in waves. A wine of intense, opulent and lasting pleasures. Muscular, bold, expressing a truly noble character. With a huge ageing potential, that will only evolve with decades …

A red heavyweight from Brda who deserves all the world’s attention, and will spoil palates of demanding drinkers.

Recently Martina Simčič organized a charity auction of their bottles with special edition designs. The starting price for a Magnum of this wine was 300 Euros, and it was sold for 1.350 Euro. An amazing price, but well worth the wine. And Martina, congratulations and huge respects for this beneficial move!
