Time to return to the Slovenska Istra wine district at the most extensive cellar here. We’re at Vinakoper, looking at a wine that has seen its release in May this year. It’s the rendition of their famed cuvée Sixty, only that this time it comes in the form of a noble white blend composed by Malvasia, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and a touch of Pinot Gris.

Sixty has been one of the top wines of the cellar and on my favourite reds, and the minimum bottling you’ll find is the form of Magnum. Could one ask for more? So it has only been natural to expect it will sooner or later please drinkers in the form of a white coloured blend. So, finally, here it is!

The wine is produced by destemming and crushing grapes that are then cold macerated. The final blend is then composed of a selection of the most expressive barrel fermented and matured wines. The selection focuses on crafting the most expressive wine, so it combines large tonneaux barrels, barriques and some botticellas from oak and acacia, where it matured for a year. After the final assemblage, it had to wait in large barrels until finally being bottled.

This results in a crystal clear, golden yellow coloured wine with pronounced density.

The bouquet is intense, intoxicating, emanating scents of overripe yellow fruit, apples, mangoes, pineapples, as well as yellow plums and lemon peel. These are followed by acacia and lemon blossom, rosemary, honey, pan brioche, vanilla all backed up with light notes of caramel and marzipan.

It is a dry wine of pronounced softness, reasonable warmth, with just the right amount of freshness and minerality to balance its taste. Full-bodied with noble elegance and lasting persistency, where especially perceptions of ripe fruit, butteriness and sweet spices are emanated.

A wine of an immense ageing potential that will only evolve itself. I’m curious about tasting it again in five to seven years just to see where the road has taken it. A bottle will cost you approximately 31,35 Eur, and currently, it is available at their physical stores and Koželj.
